Buyout clause interrupts Tottenham from signing Carlos Vinicius

Tottenham Hotspur is ostensibly attracted to sign Carlos Vinicius from Benfica on a permanent basis, but they fail to pay his £36 million release clause.

The 25-year-old has missed making an impact in the Premier League in comparison to the prolific Harry Kane, but he has shone in the Europa League, scoring six goals and assisting three times in eight games.

This summer, Spurs have the right to purchase the Benfica loanee permanently, but his £36 million buyout clause is thought to be too high for Jose Mourinho’s side to accept.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham has told Benfica that a fee of £17 million is the most they can do this summer.
