Xavi, who was recently appointed as the new Barcelona head coach replacing Ronald Koeman, has implemented a stringent code of conduct at the football club. With this initiative, Xavi has fined Ousmane Dembele for arriving three minutes late to training.

Having only been introduced at Camp Nou on Monday the club great has had an immediate impact on the players. Xavi underlined the need for discipline during his first press conference as Barcelona manager.

“Well, it’s just to follow some rules like in any company, like in any club. When there have been rules in our dressing room, things have gone well, and when not, they have gone badly,” he said. “That’s really clear, so yeah, we’ll implement rules and they will have to follow them,” he added.

Former Al-Sadd manager has kept his word as well. Earlier this week he cancelled a Gerard Pique TV interview to keep his concentration on on-field activities. The Daily Mirror reports football news that this is part of a wider code of discipline that players must now follow.

One of Xavi’s requirements is that players must attend 90 minutes before the start of each session. Dembele, who has previously struggled with timekeeping, failed to do so on Friday morning. The session began at 10:00 a.m., but the Frenchman did not arrive until 8:33 a.m., three minutes late. And as a result of his late attendance in training, Xavi fined Dembele.
