Liverpool midfielder Thiago suffered a calf injury in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace in the English football tournament. As a result, Thiago has now been ruled out for at least one week. Shortly after the hour mark the Spaniard complained of pain and was quickly replaced by eventual goalscorer Naby Keita. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was unwilling to take any risks with a player whose injury problems have recently been a major concern.
“Thiago, how the gaffer said after the game, it was a calf injury. I can’t say now how long it will take but definitely not tomorrow and not at the weekend,” Lijnders told the club’s official website confirming the football news.
To determine the severity of the injury Thiago has been sent for scans, but in the meantime, assistant Pepijn Lijnders has confirmed the midfielder will be out for at least one week and will miss the team’s next two games as a result.
“Let’s get the scan results back and we have a proper diagnosis. A shame as well because he was taking the game by the hand, he was a proper playmaker in my opinion. A shame that we miss him,” Lijnders added.
On Tuesday, Liverpool will face Norwich in the Carabao Cup before returning to league action against Brentford on Saturday. The Reds will participate in the match without Thiago, who is out with an injury like fellow midfielder Harvey Elliott.
Last week during the Premier League match against Leeds Harvey Elliott suffered a horrific injury. It comes as a huge setback for the 18-year-old who started his senior team debut this season. Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders says teenage midfielder Harvey Elliott has responded “outstandingly” to his recent ankle fracture/dislocation. Elliott was overwhelmed with the love and support he had received after the incident.
