Newest coronavirus screenings resulted in two more positive cases at the Premier League

Two more players and staff tested coronavirus positive in the latest round of screenings, confirmed the Premier League.

According to the new protocol of the Premier League, anyone who tests positive before undergoing fresh screening and rejoining training sessions must spend seven days in self-isolation.

“Today, the Premier League can confirm that 996 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday, May 19, Thursday, May 21, and Friday, May 22, two of whom tested positively.” the league’s statement read on Saturday.

“Members or team staff who have tested positive must also become self-isolated for seven days. The number of tests available to each club was increased from 40 to 50, for the second round of testing.”

“Previously, on 17-18 May 748 players and team personnel had been screened for COVID-19, including six positive results from three clubs.”

“The six who tested positive in the first round of testing are not included in the 19-22 May figures, as they are still within their seven-day period of self-isolation.”
