The Netherlands made it back-to-back home victories in Louis van Gaal’s third spell in charge with a resounding 6-1 victory over 10-man Turkey. The Netherlands defeated Turkey in the World Cup qualifiers football match, thanks to three goals from Depay and one goal each from Davy Klaassen, and places Donyell Malen and Guus Til. Klaassen only took 54 seconds to open the scoring for the Netherlands, and he converted the provider moments later with a shot to make Depay his first score.

A foul on Klaassen allowed Depay to score second from the penalty spot, before Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu, who had awarded a penalty kick, was eliminated for a second yellow card just before the break.

Depay scored his third goal in the second half with a simple header in eight minutes, before Til and Malen scored fifth and sixth in the final 10 minutes of the game in the Netherlands. According to reports, Cengiz Under’s goal was just a consolation after a careless play from behind by the hosts, as the 6-1 score marked Turkey’s biggest defeat since October 1990.

In Tuesday’s other European World Cup qualifier, Antoine Griezmann became France’s third-highest scorer with Michel Platini scoring his 41st goal for his country when he scored twice in a 2–0 match score victory over Finland.
