Lionel Messi gets emotional after leaving Barcelona. Messi bursts into tears at the farewell ceremony as he could not control his emotions. The Spanish club Barca organized the Farewell ceremony for their superstar. Lionel Messi bids farewell to Barcelona after 18 years in the club.
The Argentine got on the stand but couldn’t hold his tears. Everybody present at the press conference including former teammates and press gave Messi an extended standing ovation, Florent Torchut reports. Messi is leaving the club after 18 years, winning 10 La Liga titles and 4 Champions League trophies under his belt with the La Liga club.
Lionel Messi has started his emotional farewell press conference. “Good afternoon. I am really lost for words. I was numb and still am in fact. It’s very hard for me as I wasn’t ready. I wanted to stay. I left that story with fax in the past. This year I didn’t want to leave. This is my home, our home. We enjoyed our life in Barcelona. The time we have had here has been amazing,” – said Leo, Diario Sport reports.
Lionel Messi has spoken out on negotiations with Barcelona as he bids farewell to the club. “I was offered to reduce my salary by 50 percent and Barca didn’t ask for anything else. I did everything I could to stay but it didn’t work out. I have always been honest with the fans. There are too many rumors going around me, but usually, they are false. To tell the truth, to the people I grew up with, who gave me so much, is the most important thing”, – said the Argentine, as per Mundo Deportivo.
Lionel Messi has told the press he was sure he’d stay after the Barcelona presidential election last spring. “The truth is that when elections were held, I had dinner with the president. We had a talk and I was sure I would stay and there’d be no problems with the contract renewal. But later…happened what happened”, – said Messi, as per Mundo Deportivo.
Messi came to Barca back in 2000 joining the youth team and its been 18 years since he joined Barcelona senior team. Since then he has managed to win 10 La Liga trophies, 4 Champions Leagues, 7 Spanish Copa’s and Supercopa’s, 3 UEFA Super Cups, and Club World Cups.
