EPL English Premier LeagueEverton 1-0 Chelsea

Everton 1-0 Chelsea

Everton clinches a colossal win and three points in their fight for survival, with Richarlison’s goal making the difference at the start of the second half.

The Toffees couldn’t have got the second period off to a better start, with Richarlison providing a composed finish in the 46th minute to lift the roof off Goodison.

Chelsea pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Still, they came up against an inspired performance from Pickford in goal, who pulled off fantastic saves to deny Azpilicueta, Rudiger and Kovacic to secure a 1-0 victory.

Starting lineup:

EVERTON (4-3-3): Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Mason Holgate, Yerry Mina, Vitaliy Mykolenko; Fabian Delph, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Alex Iwobi; Anthony Gordon, Richarlison, Demari Gray.

EVERTON SUBS: Asmir Begovic, Michael Keane, Jonjoe Kenny, Jarrad Branthwaite, Tom Davies, Salomon Rondon, Dele Alli, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Allan.

CHELSEA (3-4-1-2): Edouard Mendy; Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger; Reece James, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Jorginho, Marcos Alonso; Mason Mount; Kai Havertz, Timo Werner.

CHELSEA SUBS: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Trevoh Chalobah, Malang Sarr, Mateo Kovacic, Saul, Kenedy, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech, Romelu Lukaku.

EVERTON, TAKE THE LEAD! What a start to the second half for the home side and a massive goal by Richarlison! Azpilicueta takes too long in possession right on the edge of his box, and the Everton striker nicks it off him. Gray picks it up, who then flicks it back to his teammate, and Richarlison coolly slides the ball past Mendy and into the bottom right corner of the net. It’s 1-0.

So, what’s next?

This win moves Everton to within two points of Burnley and Leeds with a game in hand, so survival is in their own hands. They face Leicester next time out.

Meanwhile, Chelsea remains third but has Tottenham and Arsenal hot on their heels ahead of their next match against Wolves.
