Watford 1-5 Leicester

Leicester came from behind to defeat Watford 5-1 at Vicarage Road, confirming their relegation to the Championship.

The hosts got off to a good start, with Joao Pedro putting them ahead after only six minutes.

However, the visitors took the lead at halftime, thanks to two goals in short succession from Maddison and Vardy.

After Watford switched off at the back from kick-off, Barnes made it 3-1 seconds after the interval.

As a result, Barnes capped up the win with his second of the game late on, before Vardy made it four.

Starting lineup:

WATFORD (4-3-3): Ben Foster; Jeremy Ngakia, Craig Cathcart, Christian Kabasele, Adam Masina; Moussa Sissoko, Edo Kayembe, Dan Gosling; Samuel Kalu, Joao Pedro, Ken Sema.

LEICESTER (4-3-3): Danny Ward; James Justin, Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans, Timothy Castagne; Nampalys Mendy, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Youri Tielemans; Harvey Barnes, Jamie Vardy, James Maddison.

GOOOAAALLL! WATFORD, TAKE THE LEAD! A corner comes into the box from the right, and Joao Pedro tries to flick it on at the near post but misses it, and the ball then strikes Tielemans, who can’t react quickly enough to it. Joao Pedro gets a bit of luck as the ball comes straight back to him, and he volleys it towards goal, with Castagne unable to prevent it from crossing the line! They lead 1-0.

A long ball comes over the top of the Watford defence, and Cathcart produces a poor header, which falls straight to Tielemans in the box, and he flicks it to Maddison to his right, which is unmarked and powers his effort into the back of the net. So it’s 1-1.

Maddison spots the run of Vardy in behind the Watford defence, and the striker gets between Cathcart and Kabasele, heading the ball over Foster, who came out to punch it clear, and it flies straight into the back of the net. Leicester are now 2-1 ahead!

BARNES MAKES IT 3-1! Leicester get the second half off to the perfect start! They go straight on the attack, and Albrighton delivers a good cross into the box from the right, and Barnes is unmarked at the far post, who volleys the ball past Foster to extend Leicester’s lead.

VARDY MAKES IT FOUR! The striker sprints behind Cathcart after a long ball comes over the top from Barnes, and the Watford defender fails to clear, sending Vardy through on goal with just Foster to beat. However, he shows excellent composure to flick it past the keeper and into the bottom right corner to make it 4-1!

5-1. Watford lost the ball on the halfway line, and Leicester countered quickly through Maddison, who feeds Barnes to his left, and the winger only had Foster to beat, coolly sliding it into the bottom right corner of the net.

So, what’s next?

Watford now has a battle with Norwich to see who will finish bottom of the table.

Meanwhile, Leicester moves up to ninth, ahead of their game in hand on Thursday, which sees them face Chelsea.
