EPL English Premier LeagueWatford 1-2 Burnley

Watford 1-2 Burnley

Burnley staged a dramatic comeback in the final seven minutes to secure a massive result in their bid to remain in the Premier League, defeating Watford 2-1 at Vicarage Road.

An own goal from James Tarkowski had put the home side ahead, but they wasted several opportunities to extend their advantage.

The Clarets were dominant in the second half but lacked a clinical edge in front of the goal.

However, two goals in three minutes from Jack Cork and Josh Brownhill secured a massive three points for the visitors and a third win on the bounce in the top flight.

Burnley is now five points clear of Everton with four games to play, while Watford is on the brink of relegation after their late collapse.

Starting lineup:

WATFORD (4-3-3): Ben Foster; Kiko Femenia, Christian Kabasele, Samir, Hassane Kamara; Moussa Sissoko, Imran Louza, Juraj Kucka; Ismaila Sarr, Joao Pedro, Emmanuel Dennis.

WATFORD SUBS: Jeremy Ngakia, William Troost-Ekong, Joshua King, Adam Masina, Ken Sema, Dan Gosling, Daniel Bachmann, Samuel Kalu, Edo Kayembe.

BURNLEY (4-4-2): Nick Pope; Connor Roberts, Nathan Collins, James Tarkowski, Charlie Taylor; Dwight McNeil, Jack Cork, Josh Brownhill, Aaron Lennon; Wout Weghorst, Matej Vydra.

Goals:

TARKOWSKI SCORES AN OWN GOAL!!!!!!!! 1-0!!!!!!! The home side makes their early pressure count as Kucka hits the bar, but the ball strikes Tarkowski on the knee and rolls over the line. Sarr whips a cross deep to the back post for Kucka to collect. He gets the ball out of his feet and fires towards the goal. The ball rattles the bar but hits Tarkowski and rolls into the net.

CORK HEADS HOME A VITAL EQUALISER!!!!!!!!! 1-1!!!!! The Clarets have a deserved equaliser as Cork coasts in at the back post and heads home with a diving effort. Taylor is the architect with a driving run down the left flank before he whips a perfect cross to the back post for Cork to attack. The midfielder gets in behind Dennis and dispatches his attempt past Foster.

BROWNHILL FIRES BURNLEY IN FRONT!!!!!!! 2-1!!!!!! The midfielder scores a massive goal in the battle to remain in the Premier League. Watford failed to clear their lines from McNeil’s free-kick from the left flank that pinballs around the box. Brownhill collects on the edge of the box and takes a touch. He places his right-footed strike with precision away from Foster into the bottom-right corner. What a goal that could be for Burnley.
