USA manager Gregg Berhalter was blackmailed during Fifa World Cup

USA manager Gregg Berhalter was blackmailed during Fifa World Cup. Gregg Berhalter, the head coach of the USA, revealed shockingly on Tuesday that he had been the target of blackmail at the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Berhalter revealed in a message on his Twitter page that a third party had threatened to disclose private information concerning a 1991 event during the FIFA World Cup.

The detailed statement, which was reported by the Daily Mail, shows that the coach violently kicked his wife in the legs over 30 years ago: “The moment has come for me to publicly discuss some personal information that a third party has used against my family and me. I look forward to talking with US Soccer about the future.”

An individual contacted US Soccer during the World Cup and claimed to have information about me that would “take me down”; this was apparently done to use something extremely personal from a long time ago to cause my relationship with US Soccer to terminate.

He went on to describe the circumstances of the time, saying, “In the fall of 1991, I met my soulmate. Rosalind and I first met while I was a freshman in college, just 18 years old. When we talked, there was a comforting sensation. Rosalind was and still is a wonderful person who is tenacious, sympathetic, and enjoyable to be around. We hit it off right away.

“We seemed to have known one another for a very long time. Four months into our relationship, something happened between us that would ultimately determine the course of our union. Rosalind and I got into a fight one night while drinking at a neighborhood tavern, and it spilled outside. When things got physical, I kicked her in the legs.”

There are zero excuses for my conduct that night; it was a horrible moment and one that I regret to this day, continued Berhalter after stating that his wife Rosalind quit the relationship but later returned. I quickly apologized to Rosalind at that moment, but it was understandable that she didn’t want anything to do with me.

“Seven months later, out of the blue, I received a phone from Rosalind asking if we could chat in person. At that point, I was afraid that I had lost my soulmate. We got together, spoke about how we had changed, and decided to mend our relationship.”

Against the Netherlands in the Round of 16, Berhalter and his team ultimately lost and were eliminated from the FIFA World Cup.
