Txiki Begiristain: We are pleased to welcome Juanma to Man City

Juan Manuel Lillo has joined the backroom team of Pep Guardiola as an assistant coach reported Manchester City.

Leading the Club to be proclaimed champions of the Chinese League One and thereby making them achieve the Super League promotion, The 54-year-old Spaniard joins from Qingdao Huanghai, he started up his coaching career in the Spanish Leagues.

Lillo has managed a number of world-class stars including Andres Iniesta, David Villa, and Yaya Toure, being the youngest coach in the history of La Liga.

At the end of his playing days at Dorados de Sinaloa, during their joint period in Mexico, he also managed City boss Pep Guardiola.

Lillo said: “I am delighted to be joining the coaching staff at Manchester City. My relationship with Pep goes back many years and as part of this exciting team, I am thrilled to be joining him.”

“It’s a joy to be part of this community and I intend to make a major contribution to the progress of the club’s performance.”

Football director Txiki Begiristain added: “We are very pleased to welcome Juanma to Manchester City. His broad experience working across three continents and with some of world football’s most famous names will be an excellent addition for Pep and his team.”

“We are looking forward to seeing him play a vital role as we return to football.”
