EPL English Premier LeagueTottenham 3-1 Leicester

Tottenham 3-1 Leicester

With a comprehensive win over distracted opponents, Tottenham takes three points that lift them into the top four – for now, at least, as arch-rivals Arsenal are in action later.

Under Conte, Spurs are comfortable conceding most of the possession, and they did so today while proving to be much the sharper side in the final third.

A lame Leicester showing was ultimately punished by the combination of second-half substitute Kulusevski and the irrepressible Son, and the hunt for Champions League qualification goes on.

Starting lineup:

TOTTENHAM (3-4-3): Hugo Lloris; Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies; Emerson Royal, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Ryan Sessegnon; Lucas Moura, Harry Kane, Son Heung-min.

SUBS: Pierluigi Gollini, Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon, Harry Winks, Dejan Kulusevski, Harvey White, Matthew Craig, Steven Bergwijn, Dane Scarlett.

LEICESTER CITY (4-2-3-1): Kasper Schmeichel; Timothy Castagne, Caglar Soyuncu, Daniel Amartey, Luke Thomas; Nampalys Mendy, Boubakary Soumare; Marc Albrighton, Kelechi Iheanacho, Ayoze Perez; Patson Daka.

SUBS: Danny Ward, Hamza Choudhury, Jamie Vardy, Ademola Lookman, Lewis Brunt, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans, James Justin, Wesley Fofana.

SPURS LEAD! From Son’s inswinging corner, Kane shakes off the attentions of Amartey in the box to get to the ball at the near post, powering his header past Schmeichel for the opening goal! He loves scoring against Leicester. Tottenham is 1-0 up.

SON STRIKES! Spurs have a crucial second goal, as Romero wins the ball with a brilliant block tackle in midfield before Kulusevski works his way into the box and cuts the ball back for Son – he allows the ball to run across. He turns and fires into the back of the net! It’s Tottenham 2-0 Leicester.

A SON SCREAMER! Wrapping up the points in style, Son receives the ball from Kulusevski again on the edge of the area, then takes a touch before unfurling a superb curling strike which nestles in the top-left corner. What a beauty! Spurs lead 3-0.

LEICESTER, GET ONE BACK! Too late, of course, but Iheanacho improves the scoreline by finding the net with an excellent individual effort. The striker evades two Tottenham defenders to tee up a low strike from 20 yards and picks out the bottom corner via the right-hand post, leaving Lloris helpless. As a result, the spurs’ lead is cut to 3-1.

So, what’s next?

Following victory to celebrate Conte’s 100th Premier League game, Spurs next face a tough trip to Anfield before the potentially pivotal North London derby on May 12.

Leicester, meanwhile, will have all eyes on the Eternal City as they take on Roma for a place in the Europa Conference League final on Thursday.
