West Brom is in talks to sign veteran defender Branislav Ivanovic on a free transfer, according to a Russian outlet Championat report.
After his contract expired at Zenit Saint Petersburg the 36-year-old is currently a free agent and Slaven Bilic is apparently interested in signing the defender to help him with his goal of keeping Albion in this season’s Premier League.
Ivanovic has spent ten years at Chelsea between 2007 and 2017 and is no stranger to football in the Premier League. He has won three leagues and Champions League titles as well as three FA Cups, the League Cup, and the Europa League.
Signing a 36-year-old player is hardly a move that has any long-term thinking behind it but for a season, and that’s such an important season at that, it makes sense for Bilic to look at an experienced defender like Ivanovic as West Brom will undoubtedly come under pressure many times over the course of the next campaign.
