Juventus 0-1 Inter

Serie A

Juventus 0-1 Inter

Hanging on for most of the match, Inter celebrates a backs-to-the-wall victory with their fans as they hold firm to keep their Scudetto defence alive – Juventus, meanwhile, are indeed out of title contention now.

However, having fired in shot after shot from the edge of the box or beyond, the hosts couldn’t break down stubborn opponents – though they did strike the woodwork twice – and succumbed to a goal from a penalty which Calhanoglu only fired home at the second attempt.

That ends their 16-game unbeaten streak, while Inter moves four points clear of their rivals in the Serie A standings, with a game still in hand.

Starting Lineup:

JUVENTUS (4-2-3-1): Wojciech Szczesny;

Danilo, Matthijs de Ligt, Giorgio Chiellini, Alex Sandro;

Manuel Locatelli, Adrien Rabiot; Juan Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala, Alvaro Morata; Dusan Vlahovic.

INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic;

Danilo D’Ambrosio, Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni;

Denzel Dumfries, Hakan Calhanoglu, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Ivan Perisic;

Edin Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez.

INTER LEAD! At the second attempt, Calhanoglu converts the penalty with a right-footed strike into the bottom left corner, leaving Szczesny well beaten on this occasion. Inter lead 1-0 on the cusp of half-time.

What does it mean? Inter’s smash and grab.

This was only Inter’s second away victory over Juventus in their past 16 attempts across all competitions, and there is little doubt they rode their luck.

A dominant Juve finished the game with 23 shots, while the Nerazzurri managed a mere five, with just one on target. That was the one that mattered, though.

So, what’s next?

Juve must wait until next Saturday before they can attempt to bounce back from a second successive Derby d’Italia defeat when they meet lowly Cagliari. At the same time, Inter is next in action against Hellas Verona on the same day.
