Serie A will not be permitted to resume

The meeting of Italian football unions today decided that there will still be relegations and promotions with 20 teams in Series A if the season ends early, states Sky Sport Italia (via Football Italia).

Until the medical procedure is fully decided Serie A will not be permitted to resume warned the Sports Minister Vincenzo Spadafora. As of May 4, the COVID-19 pandemic moves into Phase Two with deaths, intensive care admissions, and positive cases all falling rapidly.

Including the Players’ Association, Coaches’ Association, Referees’ Association, and FIGC there was a videoconference between various organizations, today.

The result was Plan B, meaning that even if the season terminated early, there will be promotions and relegations this summer, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Assuming that the Serie A season will tend to have 20 clubs next year, because there was an option not to elevate anyone and promote two from Serie B, establishing a 22-side structure.

UEFA has August 2 deadline to finish domestic tournaments if it changes this then another consequence is that then they will be able to start the 2019-20 season well into August and even September.
