Scotland 1-3 Ukraine

Ukraine put up a fantastic display to defeat Scotland and keep their World Cup dreams alive.

The visitors put on a fantastic offensive display and dominated Scotland for the whole of the game.

Early on, Gordon made several outstanding stops from Yarmolenko and Yaremchuk, but the visitors were not to be denied.

To make it 1-0, Yarmolenko pounced onto a through pass and lofted a stunning finish over Gordon.

The second half proceeded in the same spirit, with Yaremchuk doubling the advantage with a header after a well-executed play.

Scotland threatened a comeback when McGregor’s shot crept over the line.

But Dovbyk wrapped up the game in the 95th minute with a calm finish.

Starting lineup:

SCOTLAND (3-4-1-2): Craig Gordon; Scott McTominay, Grant Hanley, Liam Cooper; Aaron Hickey, Billy Gilmour, Callum McGregor, Andy Robertson; John McGinn; Che Adams, Lyndon Dykes.

UKRAINE (4-1-4-1): Georgi Bushchan; Oleksandr Karavaev, Illia Zabarnyi, Mykola Matvyenko, Vitalii Mykolenko; Taras Stepanenko; Andriy Yarmolenko, Ruslan Malinovskiy, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Viktor Tsygankov; Roman Yaremchuk.

GOAL! YARMOLENKO! 1-0. Ukraine takes a deserved lead. Malinovskiy clips a precise through ball over the defence’s top, and Yarmolenko breaks the offside trap before lifting a superb lob over Gordon from 12 yards!

GOAL! YAREMCHUK! 2-0. Ukraine doubles their lead. A slick move from the visitors culminates with Yarmolenko finding Karavaev free near the touchline. The defender sends a pinpoint cross to the back post, where Yaremchuk climbs highest to steer a superb header into the far corner and beyond a motionless Gordon.

GOAL! McGregor pulls one back! 2-1. Bushchan flaps at a cross from deep, and McGregor drills it back towards goal, where it narrowly bounces over the line, despite Matvyenko’s late clearance. The referee waited before confirming it went over the line and awarded the goal!

GOAL! DOVBYK! 3-1. Ukraine, wrap up the win! The visitors hit Scotland on the break as Zinchenko threads a brilliant pass through the heart of the defence, and Dovbyk closes in on goal before sending an excellent finish past Gordon!
