To assist the neediest families hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in the Spanish capital, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid joined forces to launch a fundraiser.
“Madrid led the way again in unity, sacrifice, and determination. We face one of the toughest situations in our recent history but we are going to get through it together,” Real president Florentino Perez said in a video released by both clubs.
“Together, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are introducing MadridxMadrid-an initiative to benefit the most vulnerable in our society.”
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo added: “This initiative can unite all of Madrid to help those who are going through a rough period.”
With more than 27,000 deaths and 8,000 in Madrid, Spain is one of Europe’s most impacted coronavirus countries.
