PSV head coach Roger Schmidt has clarified the situation with Denzel Dumfries, who has become Inter target and is expected to leave in the summer. The PSV coach was candid about the future of Dumfries and teammate Donyell Malen, speaking at a pre-match press conference ahead of PSV’s Champions League qualifying match against Galatasaray, as reported by.
During the summer football transfer window, Dumfries has emerged as a top target for the Nerazzurri as the club explores a player with the right profile to replace Achraf Hakimi, who left for Paris Saint-Germain. The PSV defender is being pursued by several other European clubs, therefore it remains to be seen whether an agreement can be reached to bring the Dutchman to the Giuseppe Meazza.
However, as Schmidt has stated, Dumfries and Malen, who are also attracting significant transfer interest, are very likely to be on their way from PSV in the near future. On the pair’s departures, Schmidt said that it would be “A matter of days or weeks, I don’t know exactly.”
“Now they are not in the group,” he continued, “they have to rest after the European Championship, but their case is different because they explicitly told us they want to leave PSV. Last year it was already clear that it would be their last season here with us. The situation is this: they have not yet signed with a new club, but there is interest and negotiations are underway. For these matches, they are not an option for PSV.”
