Paul Arriola responded when he isn’t rostered for World Cup. After being left off of Greg Berhalter’s USMNT team for the 2022 World Cup, Paul Arriola has been devastated. With FC Dallas, the winger had a standout MLS season, scoring a career-high 10 goals and dishing out five assists in 32 games. Despite having outstanding numbers, he was unable to qualify for Qatar, which made him quite disappointed.
After the USMNT team announcement, Arriola said on social media that the previous few days had been quite challenging. Some of the toughest I’ve experienced recently. Being left out of the final World Cup squad breaks my heart. My objective for this year was to position myself in the best possible way to reach this point, and while I think I succeeded, it wasn’t enough.
Being a part of the national team for so long teaches you what an honor it is to represent your country, and I can assure you that I never took that privilege for granted. I can say with certainty that I will support my teammates when they play, and I sincerely hope that our nation unites behind this incredible squad. I am grateful to everyone who has contacted me and offered encouragement.
The 27-year-old had previously suffered injuries after missing almost all of the 2020 season because of an ACL tear. He was given a loan to Swansea in January, but his loan was terminated due to a quadriceps injury. There is little doubt that the player’s exclusion from the World Cup selection represents yet another significant setback. The World Cup campaign of Berhalter’s team will begin on November 21 against Wales, followed by matches against England and Iran.
