Palmer turned down a loan deal to stay at Man City

Cole Palmer acknowledges turning down possibilities to go on loan from Manchester City because he was influenced by Phil Foden. The 20-year-old midfielder, who has already made 21 senior appearances for the defending Premier League champions, is regarded as one of the most exciting possibilities at the Etihad Stadium. Palmer has observed fellow academy graduate Foden demonstrate that trust can be earned from Pep Guardiola without leaving his Manchester comfort zone. Many players of his age would look to find regular game time elsewhere before pushing for a prominent role at their parent club, but Palmer has seen Foden.

England Under-21 representative When asked why he didn’t use the opportunity to go out on loan, Palmer told Sport Bible, If Phil could do it, why can’t I? Prior to Phil, there wasn’t really anyone who could do it. I believe I am competent. I’ll just have to persevere. I’m hoping I can pull it off. Every time we discuss his taking out a loan, we also discuss me. Am I being lent money? – however, I believe staying there is the greatest option if you want to join the team and learn with the players. I had the option of leaving on loan, but everyone believed it was best for me to stay.

It may function in various ways, in my opinion. However, because I developed slowly, I was probably not prepared to take out a loan at that time. Do you get what I’m saying? It was a bit of a tough one because I believe I’d be best suited to stay when I’m more grown. The main goal was to just remain there and practice with the greatest players. Guardiola advised me to persevere and be patient, among other things. The entire crew has frequently stated that to me. I have to believe that he will be sincere and, hopefully, get more and more playing time.

Although Palmer has yet to score a Premier League goal for City, he has made six top-flight appearances this season despite competing for playing time with superstars like Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, and Ilkay Gundogan. City, whom last time out saw Liverpool ruin their unbeaten start to the 2022–23 season, will be back in action on Saturday when they host Brighton.
