Robbie Keane – LA Galaxy new manager

Robbie Keane is set to be revealed as the new LA Galaxy manager, having been out of work since June.

After the appointment of Neil Warnock, who replaced Woodgate after his sacking, opted against carrying on his duties, Keane, acting as assistant to Jonathan Woodgate at Middlesbrough.

He now looks set to take on his first role as a club manager with whom he previously worked as a player for five years.

The 40-year-old has already agreed on terms with Galaxy and there is an imminent official announcement, according to The Sun.

As he looks to overturn the fortunes of a side in wretched form he has already assembled his backroom staff on top of agreeing to move to California. He’ll replace Guillermo Barros Schelotto when he takes the reins, who recently suffered the most recent 4-0 loss at home in San Jose.

LA Galaxy did not win any of their last seven games alone-conceding 10 goals in their last two games-prompting the decision to be taken. The scale of the work in Keane’s hands is undeniable, with the Galaxy rooted to the bottom of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer.

They have just 15 points out of their 16 matches, sorely missing former player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who ended his two-year spell in November to move back to Serie A.

If anything, the MLS side could do with somebody in their ranks of Keane’s caliber. A 23-year career in which he scored 325 goals for ten different clubs in 737 games, also sees him sitting atop the Republic or Ireland all the time scoring charts with the nation’s 68 goals.

His time playing with LA Galaxy was just as fruitful as he scored 104 goals in 165 outings, raising the MLS Cup and a solitary Supporters’ Shield on three occasions.
