Karim Benzema became Real Madrid’s hero as he saved an equalizer against Chelsea in UEFA Champions League first-leg semi-finals. Zinedine Zidane talked about Benzema’s heroic goal in Real Madrid’s match on Tuesday. Karim Benzema’s goalscoring effort in Real Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League semi-finals received praises from manager Zinedine Zidane, but at the same time, he is not shocked by the star forward’s performance.
Benzema beat Christian Pulisic’s 14th-minute opening lead for Blues just before the half-hour mark in the 29th minute at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano in the first leg of the semi-final tie conducted last night.
“Karim is amazing and I am happy for him, but I am not surprised for what he is doing every game,” Zidane told reporters according to the official website.
“He is a more complete player now than he used to be,” Zidane said. “He is not a pure No. 9, he doesn’t only think about scoring goals and that’s what I love about him,” Zidane added.
“He loves to combine with his teammates and create chances for them but he also knows how to score goals and he does that when the team needs him the most like he did today. That’s what Karim is all about.”
“It is the same with all of my players. They are the most important. They have done again a great effort tonight and keeping the faith in what we are doing.
“There are difficulties, of course, because we have an amazing team in front of us and they are Champions League semi-finals. We have suffered.
“But I am very happy for all of the players because we are alive. We know we have to go to London and score goals in order to win the game.”
