Thanks to goals from Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw, Manchester United won the Manchester derby for the second time in a row at the Etihad Stadium.
When Manchester United defeated the Premier League leaders 2-0 in the Manchester derby, Manchester City’s 21-match winning streak came to an end on Sunday.
Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty after 101 seconds after a sloppy foul by Gabriel Jesus, and Luke Shaw was the unexpected scorer as the visitors doubled their lead in the 50th minute.
Ederson came close to saving the Portuguese, but the goalkeeper could only palm Fernandes’ low attempt from the spot into the net.
Despite being flustered at falling behind for the first time in 20 league games, City recovered from an early setback to take charge of the game.
City huffed and puffed but couldn’t find a way to break down United’s defence, helped by the fact that only five of their 21 shots were on goal. Though they seemed to be on track to end the season on top, they came up short against their opponents here.
