Manchester City is in pole position to reach the final of the Champions League after beating PSG – Paris Saint-Germain 2–1 in the first leg of their successful semi-finals on Wednesday, with Riyad Mahrez defeating. Marquinhos introduced a header to give PSG an early lead and a well-deserved advantage for the break over Le Parc des Princes. However, City commander Kevin De Bruyne’s center gave the city level to pull in shortly after the hour, and Mahrez defeated Keylor Navas in a 71-minute free-kick to complete the change, giving him an advantage over Pep Guardiola’s return to Manchester next Tuesday.
“The last 10 minutes of the first half were good and the second half was superb in every department. We scored two goals, which is so important, but in six days we have a lot to work on,” Guardiola for BT Sport. “Overall, very pleased with the performance, but it is halfway there. We still have 90 minutes to defeat them, and PSG is a team where anything can happen,” he added.
PSG gave the home team a goal after about 77 minutes after the medium PSG came down. The finishing shot just widened, though. After failing to win at home to Manchester United, Barcelona, and Bayern in the Champions League this season, the Parisians are facing a tough battle in England if they reach the final for the second year in a row.
Subsequently, the first blood for the city supported by the Emirate against the QG-owned PSG, in a tie that is also a battle of competing countries in the Gulf.
“I scored two stupid goals,” Marquinhos entered RMC Sport. From the withdrawal phase, he said: “There’s no point in going there if we don’t think we can return it.”
After all the money raised by its owners in Abu Dhabi, City is watching the Champions League’s first final, it was their first appearance in the semi-finals in 2016 when they defeated PSG in the last eight.
However, PSG can still be optimistic about their prospects after sensational performances against Barcelona and Bayern in the final two rounds. PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino hopes to beat Guardiola again, as he did when Tottenham Hotspur defeated City in the quarter-finals in 2019.
