Liverpool vs Southampton prediction

Liverpool is all set to host Southampton on Saturday evening for their Premier League clash. They aim to make up ground to boost their odds of qualifying for the top four. The Reds had a terrific season, winning only one of their last five games in all competitions. They face a Saints team aiming to achieve the league double for the third time in their history, having done so in 1960-61 and 2003-04. Here’s all you need to know about Liverpool vs Southampton prediction, lineup, and team news.

Team news

Liverpool lineup: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson; Thiago, Fabinho, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Liverpool had the weekend break since their match against Manchester United was postponed.

Nat Phillips is back in the Liverpool squad after recovering from injury.

On Saturday, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah, and Diogo Jota are likely to compete for three attacking spots.

Southampton lineup: McCarthy; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Vestergaard, Salisu; Walcott, Diallo, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong; Redmond, Adams

Danny Ings is uncertain to play against his former club this season.

Southampton has successfully reversed Jannik Vestergaard’s red card from last week’s draw with Leicester.

Takumi Minamino ruled out because he is unlikely to play against his parent club Liverpool.

Jack Stephens will be called upon once more at left-back if Ryan Bertrand is ruled out for the away match.

To snap a three-game losing run Southampton drew 1-1 with Leicester in the previous game, but they have already lost eight of their last nine league away matches. Conceding 10 goals in the process they have also struggled to score in any of their last four visits to Anfield.

Only the division’s bottom two teams – Sheffield United and West Bromwich Albion – have conceded more goals this season than Southampton, who have conceded at least once in six of their last eight Premier League home games.

Both defenses have been weak since the turn of the year, so Adams and Redmond, in the absence of Ings, would have to step up to provide a much-needed challenge going forward for the Saints, if Klopp’s backline is to be broken this weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s side cannot afford to lose any more points if they are to qualify for the Champions League. We expect the hosts to win a hard-fought match at Anfield on Saturday.

Our Prediction: Liverpool 2 – 1 Southampton
