Koeman ahead of Clasico: Griezmann got a chance of starting

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman insisted that there was no gap between Antoine Griezmann and himself after the Frenchman was dropped in midweek for their Champions League win.

The 29-year-old seemingly aimed a dig at the Dutch string-puller during the recent international break, suggesting his impressive form for the national team was down to Didier Deschamps deploying him in his most effective role.

The indifferent form of the Frenchman to start the campaign saw him dropped in midweek for the 5-1 rout of Ferencvaros, but Koeman refused to make too much of the situation ahead of Clasico on Saturday.

“He’s [Griezmann] got a chance of starting, just like any other player. It’s not good to discuss this every game,” the Barcelona boss told a press conference according to the Daily Mail.

“He’s an important player, but we want all our players to be at their best. The team is the most important thing and we’ll pick the best players for the game tomorrow [Saturday].”
