Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta has expressed his opinion about the future of club striker Lionel Messi.
“We will make him an offer that fits the situation at the club. We won’t be able to compete with other teams, but money doesn’t run Leo,” said Laporta to Marca.
“I’m sure he won’t stay at the club in case other candidates win. He didn’t like Mr Freixa because his board thinks Messi isn’t that necessary for the team. But Leo’s presence generates 30% of the club’s revenue.”
“However, Messi also has feelings if he leaves, our life will not end there.”
Barcelona’s presidential election will be held on March 7.
Messi’s current contract with the club expires in the summer. It has been repeatedly reported that after talking to the new Barca president the player will decide on his future.
