Inter players asked to accept salary cut

Inter is contemplating saving some amount of money by asking players to agree on a pay cut for 2 months. Yesterday, President Steven Zhang had a meeting with Inter players, where he requested them to take a salary cut to help the club financially. The meeting lasted about 45 minutes, and Zhang would need to speak with each player individually over the next few days, according to Il Corriere della Sera.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter would save €25 million if players agree to forego two months’ pay. According to reports, Antonio Conte was not present at the meeting, but players were informed they would collect their bonuses for winning the championship. The Italian club planned to take this step of to reducing people’s salaries due to the coronavirus crisis, as per the Italian agency ‘ANSA’.  

If everyone decides to take a pay cut Inter could save up to €25 million before taxes, but the Nerazzurri will have to ratify the agreements before June 30, the end of the financial year. As an effect of the coronavirus pandemic, Inter Milan is facing severe economic deprivation. Seeing the situation Conte and the captain Samir Handanovic have been in conversations with Inter and they have said they are willing to accept a pay cut in order to help the club.

These adjustments will be made based on the individual circumstances of each person. Inter would have to distinguish their agreements depending on when the players’ contracts expire, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Last week, Inter won the Scudetto breaking their 11 years of wait to win the Serie A title. Inter did win a single Serie A trophy since 2010 as Juventus holds the record of winning the Championship title nine years in a row. This year Inter Milan denied Juve their 10th trophy and took the title home.
