The Germans could not have had a better start to the match of 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Iceland. Just seven minutes after they led 2:0.
Leon Goretzka opened the scoring and beat the rivals’ goalkeeper with a beautiful first-ball shot. Kai Havertz quickly added to the lead.
Hannes Halldorsson had no chance with his shot from the edge of the penalty area. Germany dominated and created more opportunities. In the first half, they were on the ball 77 percent of the time and did not allow their opponents to take a single shot.
In the 56th minute, Ilkay Gundogan increased Germany’s lead. For the national team, he scored his ninth goal with a powerful shot.
