Edinson Cavani is still a ‘great player’ says Diego Forlan and he can emulate former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic after joining the Premier League club. On the day after his departure from the PSG at the end of last season, the Red Devils signed the Uruguayan legend Cavani.
In 301 appearances, Cavani scored 200 goals for the French champions, but some questioned how much of the impact he would have on Manchester United when he was 33. However, former United Strike Forlan is adamant that Cavani will develop into a valuable member of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad, and says he can emulate Ibrahimovic.
When Ibrahimovic arrived in Old Trafford in 2016 he was asked similar questions, but the Swedish hero scored 28 goals in his first season in England to help United win the Europa League and the EFL Cup.
“Edinson is still a great player”, Forlan said to the South China Morning Post.
“I haven’t seen any decline in him yet.”
“‘I think he’s a top signing for United, just like Zlatan was. He’s that type of player. ‘He’ll lead by example, by how he trains and how he plays. He’ll be a positive influence on the young players. ‘He’s a winner who has won lots of trophies, a goalscorer who has scored wherever he has been, he assists too. ‘He’s strong and his physique will be fine for English football. He’s quick, he’s highly motivated.’”
