Chris Basham has put pen on paper until the summer of 2022 for Sheffield United.
The news was confirmed this morning by Blades after Basham was named the season’s player of the Blades ‘players and supporters’ player last night.
The 32-year-old started each Premier League game for the Blades last season.
The defender was previously linked to a move to Newcastle but admitted: “I’m delighted that the deal was agreed and signed off. I look forward to the future, working with the manager, and helping push the club forward.”
“We all strive for the same thing, starting with the manager and all over the club, we all have the same ambitions and the same objectives.”
“Within the group, there is a genuine unity and obviously that makes you want to remain part of this journey, we certainly think there’s a lot more to come.”
“Since day one, the club has backed us and that’s continued throughout our rise to the Premier League, now we’re here we want to improve further and that’s the focus ahead of coming back for pre-season later this month.”
After scooping both awards on Friday night at the United’s virtual awards ceremony, Basham said: “I’ve loved being here for the last six or seven years, and may it continue for a long time, because I love being here.”
The former Blackpool man is approaching 300 appearances in United’s red and white after joining when the Blades were in League One. He has since helped Chris Wilder’s men to two promotions.
