Burak Yilmaz hat-trick pulled in victory for Turkey

The Turks came out on top. Burak Yilmaz struck from outside the penalty area in the 15th minute, the ball bounced off Matthijs de Ligt, fooled the goalkeeper, and fell into the goal. The Netherlands’ situation became more complicated before the break.

In the penalty area Donyell Malen was fouled and the referee awarded a penalty kick to the Turks. Yilmaz stepped up to the ball and the hosts were already in a two-goal lead.

The Turks surprised their helpless rivals again shortly after the break.

With a superb long-range strike, Hakan Calhanoglu went on the scoresheet. The Dutch didn’t let up and were looking to score, and they succeeded in the 75th minute. Davy Klaassen introduced a moment earlier, beat the Turkish goalkeeper.

The visitors attacked with full force and after a while, it was already 3:2, this time Luuk de Jong scored a goal. Putting everything on one card did not work. All because of the great Yilmaz on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old striker scored his hat-trick with a beautiful free-kick. The Dutch could have reduced the loss in the very end, but Memphis Depay did not use the penalty kick.

Wednesday’s capital spectacle ended with a surprise victory for the Turks. Their hero was Burak Yilmaz, scorer of three goals. The hosts have made a successful start to the 2022 World Cup qualifiers in Qatar. The Dutch left the field in a completely different mood, for whom such a result is a complete flop.
