Brazil wishes Neymar to join Tokyo Olympics

Olympic football coach Andre Jardín from Brazil said on Thursday that he would like to pick the star for Neymar to play in Tokyo Olympics later this year, but admitted it would be “difficult”. Neymar inspired Brazil to their first Olympic gold medal in domestic football in 2016, ending a six-decade odyssey.

“Given that we want to have the strongest team possible, Neymar is our main player,” Jardine said in an interview on the Globo Esporte website, any possible involvement for Neymar would require the consent of his French club Paris German Will, because they have. There is no obligation to release players for competitions not organized by football’s main governing body, such as FIFA.

The 29-year-old Neymar’s chances to participate are small, as he will play in Copa America in Argentina and Colombia from 13 June to 11 July. The Olympic football tournament begins just 10 days later and ends on 8 August, two days after the start of the French Ligue 1 season.

Brazil was rejoined in Group D with Germany – whom they defeated in 2016 final – as well as Ivory Coast and Saudi Arabia. Each Olympic football team is allowed 18 players, of which only three can be over 23 years old.

Recently, Neymar made headlines about his future at Paris Saint-Germain with Kylian Mbappe. The French Giants president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated Neymar and Mbappe have no reason to quit. To this Neymar said the contract extension with PSG is no longer an issue. Obviously, he feels very comfortable and like at home here. he feels happier than before. It is noted that earlier, the Brazilian had halted his PSG contract extension as he wishes to play with his former teammate Lionel Messi.
