Legendary defender Nemanja Vidic has been compared to Lisandro Martinez by Dimitar Berbatov, a member of Manchester United. Martinez, 24, joined Old Trafford from Ajax this past summer for £56.7 million and has already won the hearts of the supporters. The Argentine defender has played in 21 matches in all competitions and has contributed to nine clean sheets for the Red Devils. Martinez has 30 tackles in his half, which places him second in the Premier League.
He has used his body to block the ball on 13 occasions, placing him sixth in the league for blocks made. Martinez has received high acclaim from Berbatov for his tenacity and fearless play, and he has been compared to Vidic, a former star for Manchester United. The Bulgarian said of Lisandro Martinez, “I believe he has no fear,” according to the club’s official website. Fear not. He is stepping up to difficulties, and in a very little way, he reminds me of Nemanja Vidic because he is putting his body on the line and attempting to fight for the team.
Vidic, who played for United for eight seasons and made 300 appearances while contributing 21 goals, was a workhorse for the team. The Serbian won three League Cups, one Champions League, and five Premier League championships. This season, Martinez and Raphael Varane have developed a strong defensive relationship. In the 10 games, they have started together, Manchester United has won seven of them. The defensive pairing is drawing comparisons to Vidic and his long-standing combination with Rio Ferdinand, a beloved Red Devils player. Martinez is also incredibly skilled with the ball and constantly tries to aid United in transition.
