Xavi Hernandez becomes new Barcelona coach

Xavi Hernandez has been officially presented as a new Barcelona head coach, the club’s press office reports. Since leaving the football club as a player back in 2015 the 41-year-old manager has stepped on the Camp Nou grass for the first time. Xavi is now accompanied by the Blaugrana chairman Joan Laporta.

Over the weekend, Xavi was announced as Ronald Koeman’s replacement and he signed new agreement in front of almost 10,000 supporters and family at Camp Nou. “We are the best club in the world, and we will be very demanding in our work in order to achieve success. I’ll give it all to make it work”, – Xavi promised to the crowded stadium chanting his name.

The former midfielder, who made 767 appearances for the club as a player, takes over with Barca winless in four La Liga games and languishing in ninth place in the table. After the Catalan giants paid Xavi’s release clause to Qatari club Al-Sadd he was able to join Barcelona. Xavi Hernandez has taken over Barça signing a contract running until the year of 2024.

During the unveiling ceremony, new Barcelona coach, Xavi waved back and sent kisses to the crowd after entering the field alongside president Joan Laporta. To seal his return to Camp Nou Xavi has revealed that he snubbed the offer to take over the Brazil national team. 

Barcelona had to strike a deal with Qatari side Al Sadd to buy Xavi out of his contract, and the boss has revealed that they also had to fend off competition from Brazil to get the deal done. Xavi confessed in his presentation (via Marca) “Yes, it is true that I spoke with Brazil. The idea was to help Tite and take over the team after the World Cup [in 2022].
