In the qualifying round for the World Cup, the Russian footballers defeated Slovakia 1-0, which left them alongside Croatia in Group H. Croatia and Russia are tied at the top of the rankings in terms of points, although it could easily have happened that such a situation would not be after Friday. During the football match in Kazan namely, Slovakia left a much better impression than Russia. Slovakia dictated the pace, attacked and created chances. The guests had more than 20 shots on goal, but in the end, it was all in vain. In the 24th minute, Skriniara’s own goal was decided and Russia remained in an equal game for the first place.
In another match of this group H, Slovenia finally played a convincing match and celebrated with Malta 4-0. Josip Iličić scored two goals, while Šporar and Šeško added one each for Slovenia’s jump to third place in the standings.
Norway missed their best player Erling Haaland but they managed to draw with Turkey. In Istanbul, both goals were scored in the first half. With a goal by Aktürkoglu in the 6th minute the host took the lead, while Thorstvedt equalized in the 41st minute.
