Brazil made strong strides towards qualifying for the World Cup football over South America with their sixth consecutive win after beating Paraguay 2-0. Neymar and Lucas Paqueta scored for Brazil. This is Brazil’s first win in the last 35 years over Paraguay in the World Cup qualifiers. Neymar (4th minute) and Lucas Paqueta (90+3) helped Brazil beat Paraguay 2-0 to make a strong move towards qualifying for the World Cup football over South America with their sixth consecutive win.

Brazil is now six points ahead of second-ranked Argentina. On the other hand, Lionel Messi’s team Argentina had taken the lead against Colombia in the first eight minutes by scoring two goals, despite this, they had to play a 2-2 draw.

Cristian Romero (3rd minute) and Leandro Paredes (8th) scored for Argentina while Luis Fernando (51st) and Miguel Borja (90+4th) scored for Colombia. Miguel Borja dashed Argentina’s hopes of victory by scoring a goal for Colombia in the last second of injury time of the second half. It was one of the best matches of South American qualifying. There were 10,000 spectators watching the football match at the Metropolitan Stadium in Barranquilla.

Four teams from the South American qualifiers will automatically qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, while the fifth-placed team will qualify for the intercontinental play-offs. Currently, Brazil is on top of the 10-team competition with 18 points. It is followed by Argentina (12), Ecuador (nine), Uruguay, and Colombia (both eight). The match between Uruguay and ninth-placed Venezuela ended in a goalless draw. Peru beat Ecuador 2-1 in another match. This is Peru’s first win in this time’s World Cup qualifiers.
