To get back to the top Manchester will have to be “mentally strong”, believes center-back Harry Maguire, whose aim is to win trophies in the coming years.
Maguire becomes the most expensive player by accepting a six-year deal at Old Trafford, after making a historic £80 million ($99 m) transfer from Leicester last year.
Forming a powerful relationship with Victor Lindelof at the back, the 27-year-old helped Red Devils once again into a strong defensive and has justified his price tag.
The player acknowledges the reality that United in the first half of the season was still too unpredictable, but thinks promising indicators of improvement were seen in 2020.
“As a Red, our biggest enemy is definitely ourselves. I’d agree we’ve possibly let ourselves down as a squad at times this year by being a little more illogical.”
“There were moments where we were so competitive in play, and then we fell down a little and got disciplined. Therefore, I would say that we are our biggest enemy.”
“We need to be powerful, mentally. We are a community of young people so we just don’t want to use it as an excuse. We want to be young but we want to stay mature. That’s where we were really picked up over the last few weeks,” Maguire said during a MUTV Q&A.
