Kieran Trippier is ready to join Newcastle United from Atlético Madrid after an agreement was reached between the clubs for a cost of £12 million-plus add-ons.

After more conversations between the club and the player’s agents, the England right-back has also agreed to personal conditions. Newcastle is planning to introduce Trippier after completing his medical.

The Saudi-backed group purchased Newcastle in October, which will be Newcastle’s first signing. Kieran Trippier was on the market since December, with Atlético Madrid prepared to sell when it became apparent that he wanted to leave and return to England.

After developing as a junior player at Manchester City, the former Tottenham full-back played for Burnley and Barnsley under Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.

Trippier made 67 appearances for Atlético Madrid in two and a half years, winning the Spanish title last season and earning a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.

Newcastle United are seeking to acquire at least three more players in January to escape relegation this season, with Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski being one of them.

Due to Callum Wilson’s ruptured calf muscle, Howe is looking to acquire a central midfielder and a striker.

Other players who have been approached by Newcastle may now look at Kieran Trippier and think, “Well, he’s an England international, so he will make that group stronger, and he will increase their chances of staying up.” They’re in the market for other players, I think they will be trying to do loan deals as well, but it’s a fantastic start to the window for Newcastle.

Next season Newcastle will be in the market, in order to rebuild their squad.
