Tokyo Olympics: Brazil and Britain women’s football team kicked the tournament with victories

In Japan’s capital Tokyo, this year’s much-discussed Olympic Games are to be held. The Tokyo Olympics will begin on Friday but the women’s football matches or women’s olympics started on Wednesday. Brazil and Britain started the tournament with victories. Marta’s two goals helped Brazil beat China 5-0. Marta thus became the first player to score five consecutive Olympic goals.

Apart from world ranked seventh player Marta, Debinha, Andressa Alves and Beatriz also scored. Marta has scored 111 international goals, the most for any Brazilian male or female player. Debinha gave Brazil a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute after her first goal in the ninth minute. Marta scored her second goal in the 74th minute. Alves then scored on a penalty and Beatriz scored in the 89th minute.

In the other match of the day, two goals from Ellen White helped Britain register a 2-0 win over Chile. White gave the team the lead in the 18th minute and then doubled the lead in the 75th minute. Chile, ranked 37th in the world rankings, is participating in the Olympics for the first time. Apart from England, this team of Britain includes players from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Earlier, the UK team participated in the 2012 Olympics.

This year’s Olympics is to be held from 23 July to 8 August. It was supposed to be done last year but had to be postponed due to the coronavirus epidemic. In view of the seriousness of coronavirus, the Japanese government has banned spectators from entering the stadium during this Olympics. In the opening matches of this year Brazil and Britain secured triumph.
