Everton head coach Carlo Ancelotti moved to Real Madrid, hence the English club is considering various candidates for their next manager. The list of potential candidates for Everton’s new manager includes Liverpool star Steven Gerrard, after Ancelotti re-joined Los Blancos. Gerrard currently is a manager of Scottish Premiership club Rangers.

In December 2019, Ancelotti took over Everton as a manager with much hype, but despite significant investment in the summer. During his helm, he led the club to a tenth-place finish this season.

The exit of the Italian coach means Everton will have to begin a hunt for their fifth manager in as many years. According to The Athletic reports the club has accumulated a shortlist of possible recruits. Steven Gerrard from Liverpool is one of the more unexpected names.

Everton started brightly and was in contention for a Champions League position for the majority of the season, only to falter and finish below newly-promoted Leeds United. Despite this, he is ready to depart Merseyside and take over at the Bernabeu from Zinedine Zidane.

Steven Gerrard emerged as one of the candidates to become the manager of Everton. At Ibrox, the Rangers manager has done an exceptional job. He led his side to the Scottish Premiership Championship and an astonishing 102 points in the process. A move to Goodison Park is exceedingly for Gerrad given his close ties to Everton’s fierce opponents. However, he had expressed his desire to take over at Liverpool one day.

“Liverpool is my club. I had a fantastic journey as a player. I’m doing a completely different career path now. I’m happy in the job and role I’m in now,” Gerrard told ITV in March.

It’s reported that former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez is also in the frame for the job; as are Paulo Fonseca, Erik ten Hag, and former Toffees managers David Moyes and Roberto Martinez.
