The new Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has started a training session on Monday beginning his era at Villa Park. Gerrard replaced Dean Smith, who was sacked following a run of five straight defeats, leaving his role of manager at Rangers. The Englishman signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Premier League football club. Describing the process of swapping Rangers for Villa, Gerrard said it was “crazy and very quick”.
Following the appointment as a new Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard has given his first interview. “I think Aston Villa sells itself. It’s an iconic football club. I’ve known it pretty well from the outside and now very much excited to get involved inside.
The excitement levels are really high. I am very hungry, very ambitious and the start can’t come quickly enough.”
“I think the club will suit me well because I know the fans are very passionate. I know there’s a demand and a pressure here to win, and that’s something I’ve lived with since I was 17-18 years of age. So, for me, it’s about making everyone come together and be unified. I believe we can do exciting things together”, – the Englishman stated, the Birmingham club’s press office reports the football news.
“I was first aware of Aston Villa’s interest on Wednesday, I had a call from my representation, and when the phone call sunk in, I wanted this to happen very quickly, because first and foremost the opportunity was too big,” Gerrard added.
“From there it happened really quick. Credit to Villa, the speed they got things done. Not just me, the staff that I’m bringing as well. I must also pay my respects to Rangers, who were very professional in the deals as well. Very crazy. Very quick. But when you’re in that situation, the last thing you want is for it to drag out.”
After 11 Premier League fixtures, Villa have only managed to get 10 points – not very far from the relegation zone. Steven Gerrard will make his debut against Brighton on Saturday, November 20.
