Solskjaer hopes Lingard will be able to turn up as a ‘vital’ part

At the end of the next season, Jesse Lingard’s deal is due to expire and the player can prove worthy of a new contract says Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In the midst of uncertainty about the future of the attacker at the club, Jesse Lingard will be able to turn up as a ‘vital’ part of his side, hopes Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The academy graduate last scored in the league back in December 2018-in the Norwegian’s first game in caretaker charge, and since New Year’s Day, Solskjaer hasn’t selected Lingard to start a Premier League match.

The England international slipped even further down the pecking order at Old Trafford, after the January arrival of Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

Daily Star claims, although Solskjaer says he is optimistic that Lingard will be able to return to being the player who in the past has scored vital goals for the club, he remains non-committal about his future at United.

“He has come back after the lockdown with a smile on his face and loads of energy,” Solskjaer said of Lingard. “Last week he fell ill for a couple of days but we have done all the tests and he’s fine. He will be involved against Norwich now.”

“Hopefully he can kick on. He has scored vital goals for us and has been a vital player for us. Let’s see what the future will hold. At the moment he is looking really sharp and focused.”
