According to Luke Shaw, Manchester United left-back Michael Carrick was “massively underrated” and yet could compete in the Premier League.
Carrick who is an assistant coach at Old Trafford ended his career at West Ham before transferring to Spurs and then United in 2006, he retired at an age of 38 as a professional in 2018.
Along with the Champions League and Europa League, the midfielder featured for the Red Devils for 300 games, earning five Premier League championships in the process.
In spite of being a regular for United, Shaw believes that Carrick’s contributions have been overlooked and that he can still do a job in today’s side.
Manchester United official website quoted Shaw, “I have a little feeling that David Beckham is perhaps a little underrated, but the one that stands out for me is Michael Carrick.”.
“I don’t just talk about United – he’s always been greatly underestimated for England. He was becoming a little older when I first joined United but always had so much energy. Today, he still has it, to be honest.”
“I still believe he might still play in the Premier League, based on what we see from him in training.”
“I don’t think he’s had the recognition he deserves because as you look back at successful United stars, you look at all the awards he’s earned because he’s been a key squad leader in that time.”
When he struggled to establish himself in a team dominated by Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard’s likes, Carrick only made 34 appearances for England amid his good club career.
