Serie A players got permission for training in May

After a political interference on Tuesday, Ligue 1 became the second major European league to be canceled but Spain’s La Liga pushed towards a potential resumption.

Until September no sporting activities will be permitted including those behind closed doors,  spitting expectations of the end of the 2019-20 campaign, announced the French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the country’s top two divisions will follow the example of the Dutch Eredivisie and will end their seasons early.

After arrangements were made earlier this month for the league to start between June 17 and July 25, officials had hoped that the teams would be able to restart within 15 days.

The Spanish Government has taken a different course, aligning itself with its Italian counterpart by setting new dates for vocational training to be revived as part of a four-stage program to emerge from the lockdown.

There is no news of future start dates for competitive action, with Serie A, but players will be allowed to use the facility on an individual basis as of May 4, with group sessions as of May 11.

In announcing the decision in France, Philippe said: “The 2019-2020 season of professional sports, including football, will not be able to resume.
