Serie A: Inter Milan and Juventus ends up in a draw

The opening stages of Derby d’Italia between Inter Milan and Juventus were played at a frantic pace but ended up in a draw with a 1-1 match score. Juventus went close when Samir Handanović failed to gather Álvaro Morata’s fierce shot, with Alex Sandro failing to turn the rebound. The hosts took the lead 10 minutes later as Hakan Calhanoglu’s deflected ball bounced back from the woodwork right to Edin Dzeko’s feet – the Bosnian striker made no mistake to open the score.

Federico Bernardeschi left the pitch due to a shoulder injury which definitely didn’t help to give the guests extra confidence – they could only muster long-range efforts from Dejan Kulusevski and Juan Cuadrado, with the Colombian going closest with his long-distance effort going wide of Handanovic’s post.

Paulo Dybala and Federico Chiesa were introduced with 25 minutes remaining on the clock, and almost immediately the visitors had fluency and creativity that was previously lacking.

Denzel Dumfries caught Alex Sandro just inside the box, with two minutes of normal time left, and Dybala coolly converted the penalty – 18th of his previous 20 attempts. Check out football highlights of the Serie A match in which Inter Milan and Juventus ended up in a draw.

The ‘Bianconeri’ are still 10 points behind Serie A leaders Napoli with only 15 points after 9 fixtures despite the motivational late strike. Meanwhile, Inter is placed third in the standings as they continue to settle into life with their new boss Simone Inzaghi in charge.
