Salah’s brilliant hat trick pushed Liverpool to win 5-0 over Manchester United

Liverpool recorded their biggest ever win against Manchester United at Old Trafford with a 5-0 match score. Jurgen Klopp’s men made the perfect start taking a 2-0 lead within thirteen minutes as Naby Keita got the first, passing into the back of the net after being teed up by Salah, before Diogo Jota slid in at the back post to convert Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.

United’s defending was poor but their best chance came from Mason Greenwood’s shot on goal, but Alisson was on hand to deny the effort. Before the break Salah added a third and fourth goal, firstly finishing from Keita’s front post cross before being criminally left in acres of space and tidily finding the bottom corner from inside the area.

Mo Salah completed a hat-trick clipping over de Gea from inside the box to make it 5-0 just 5 minutes into the second half. To further rub salt into the wound, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a consolation goal only for it to be ruled out for offside and then substitute Paul Pogba, who entered the pitch in the 46th minute, was shown a straight red card, upgraded from a yellow after VAR intervention, for a horrific challenge on Keita that resulted in the midfielder being stretchered off.

Apparently, David De Gea from the Red Devils superbly prevented Alexander-Arnold from adding a sixth, whilst Edinson Cavani summed up United’s afternoon by somehow hitting the bar from inches out. The final whistle recorded Liverpool’s victory over an outnumbered Manchester United – they are now second only to Chelsea, one point behind in the title race, and seven clear of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men who are seventh.
