Cristiano Ronaldo broke the world record for the most international goals in history as he scored his number 110 and 111 goals for the Portuguese national team. Beating Ireland 2-1 in a World Cup 2022 qualifier last night Cristiano Ronaldo reached a new milestone.
For more than 15 years the record of holding most international goals was achieved by Iran’s Ali Daei, who had scored 109 goals. During Euro 2020 Ronaldo had equalized the record by hitting his 109th football goal.
With 134 goals, Cristiano also holds the title for most Champions League goals, as well as most goals in a UEFA Champions League season by an individual – 17. Portugal national team’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo has shared his impressions following the game against Ireland (2:1).
“The record is mine and it’s unique. I’m extremely happy and it’s another one for my career. The motivation comes from the desire I have to continue playing football, also from this last contract I made [at Manchester United], in which I was happy to return home. If we get up every day with the ambition to do better, to make the fans and our children happy, that is essential”, – he said, UEFA.com reports the football news.
The Manchester United striker restored the parity in the 89th minute, adding another goal to the scoreboard just 6 minutes later securing three points to the team and breaking the world record for the most international goals scored on top of that.
Fernando Santos, Portugal coach, on Cristiano Ronaldo: “Ronaldo is like that, he has always been that. Great players are like that, the game may not be going very well but they come up with all the solutions.” Cristiano Ronaldo rejoined Manchester United on a two years contract amidst link with Manchester City move, leaving Italian club Juventus after three years.
