Real Madrid’s chief of institutional relations, Emilio Butragueo, believes Karim Benzema is already a club hero. For nearly a decade Benzema has been with Los Blancos, having joined from Lyon in 2009. Since then he has earned three league titles and four Champions Leagues along the road, as well as a slew of other trophies, and in a total of 394 games he has scored 202 La Liga goals.
Benzema has only progressed in the absence of star football player Cristiano Ronaldo, now 33 and in the finest scoring form of his career. Last season in all competitions he scored 30 goals and in this season so far he has already scored 14 goals.
Benzema has emerged as Real Madrid’s undisputed superstar and a club hero, following the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos, and he is relishing the opportunity. Real Madrid director – and former Los Blancos striker – Butragueo believes Benzema is already a club legend for what he has accomplished during his time at the club.
He told Diario AS: “Without doubt, it is a delight to see him play. The biggest players are those that improve the game. You give the ball to Benzema and the game improves. He has enormous resources and enormous talent to play inside the area.”
“His performances are exceptional. In recent years, he has assumed a big responsibility and has responded to expectations. He is already a legend of Real Madrid and I hope he will be with us for many more years.”
