Raheem Sterling pay heartfelt tribute to Steffie Gregg

England striker Raheem Sterling came out of a stalemate for the Three Lions in the 55th minute of Thursday night’s football match against Hungary in a Group I match in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. After scoring the goal, Sterling took off his shirt to pay a heartfelt tribute to his friend Steffie Gregg. The shirt read “I love you forever Steffie Gregg”.

Gregg passed away last week at the age of 26 due to COVID-19 complications. Steffie Gregg was a social media influencer and businesswoman in Jamaica, she was close to Sterling. Ms. Gregg was a Twitch streamer, and her tragic death on August 31 has shocked many.  She was the daughter of former race car driver Gary Gregg and sister of racer car driver Kyle ‘Speedy’ Gregg. Many celebs have taken to social media to pay tribute to Ms. Gregg.

The England player’s emotional moment was somewhat ruined by Hungarian fans after the 26-year-old was booed by Hungarian fans. The spectators also threw rockets and beer at the players. And according to an ITV report, monkeys were also heard by a section of fans in the stadium.

Sterling was also reserved for celebrations and tributes, as players are not allowed to take off their T-shirts to show a message. Sterling also assisted Harry Kane while he scored the second goal for England that night. Harry Maguire and Declan Rice also scored a goal as England registered a comfortable 4-0 win at Hungry.

With this win, England has cemented their place at the top of Group I with 12 points from four matches. Hungary, on the other hand, slipped to third place in the standings behind Poland. England will take on another group to meet on Sunday, 5 September at Wembley Stadium. And then on Thursday 9 August against Poland.
